Opponents of Amendment 1 are having trouble with the truth

Pro-life supporters around the state report receiving misleading calls from the pro-abortion groups opposing Amendment 1.  Funded by Planned Parenthood and the ACLU, the abortion promoters are desperate to defeat Amendment 1 and protect their lucrative abortion trade here which draws vulnerable women and girls from across the southeast.

Here are some facts for our friends:

Pro-Abortion Claim: "Pregnant cancer patients will be prevented from receiving treatment."

Pro-Life Fact:  Pregnant women have never been denied medical care and never will be.  There is nothing in Amendment 1 that enacts public policy on abortion except to say that such policies shall be determined by the people of Tennessee. Prior to 1973 when abortion was legalized in the U.S., Tennessee's laws provided protection to the unborn but included an exception to allow abortion when necessary to protect the life of the mother.  That will always be the case in Tennessee.

Pro-Abortion Claim:  Amendment 1 will ban abortion, even in the cases of rape, incest or when a mother's life is at risk.

Pro-Life Fact:  The scenario pro-abortion activists seek to describe is not possible under the 1973 federal Roe v Wade decision. No state can ban abortion, period.  Any statute enacted in Tennessee must not violate the U.S. Constitution and must be consistent with current federal rulings on abortion.

Pro-Life Fact: Amendment 1 specifically states that the people, through their elected representatives, retain the right to enact, amend, or repeal statutes regarding abortion including circumstances relating to rape, incest or to protect the life of the mother.   Even in those rare but most difficult circumstances, it is the compassion and common sense of Tennessee people which will determine what state laws ought to be.
